Lesbian Teenagers in High School features interviews with a racially diverse group of young women, ages 15-19, who identify as lesbian.   They discuss their experiences with homophobic teachers and students and share their visions of a more tolerant, accepting educational environment. The interviewees touch upon issues specific to young women of color. The film also contains an interview with a high school teacher who is an advisor to her school’s Gay/Straight Alliance. She discusses the comfort and support these kinds of groups provide.

The honest approach of Norah Salmon’s film allows viewers a brief and poignant glimpse into the lives of five brave, young women. Solidly shot, her straight-forward film delivers these articulate women’s stories candidly and clearly, allowing their voices to be heard.

Vitally pertinent to the experiences of young lesbians, this film is also relevant to families, educators, and social workers. Designed as both an expository and educational tool, Lesbian Teenagers in High School is a valuable learning resource recommended to be used by both young people and the involved and concerned mentor. Viewers will be drawn into the fascinating world of these young women’s often difficult school experiences.

Lesbian Teenagers in High School has been enthusiastically welcomed at over 20 national and international film festivals, including San Francisco’s International Lesbian & Gay Film Festival, Brussels Gay & Lesbian Film Festival, and the Paris International Lesbian Film Festival.
